##International students for Australia have brighter prospect due to lenient student visa conditions at present and the offer of varieties of courses by both colleges and universities in various education levels like Diploma, Bachelor and Masters ##

1. What are the prospects for Nepalese students who want to study in Australia?

Many Nepalese students who want an international education choose Australia. I’ve seen an increasing number of them seeking global exposure and degrees from international schools. Nepal hasn’t been able to keep up with global developments and modern students’ demands. This is why many aspiring young people choose to come to Australia.

There are several academic and vocational programmes of study which they can pursue here. There are over 800 colleges and universities in Australia for international students. The courses offered by these colleges and universities include Accounting, Information Technology, Nursing, Hospitality, and Childcare. There are also many universities and other educational institutions from which to choose. With lenient Australian student visa requirements in place at the present moment by the Australian government, Nepalese students will not find it difficult to study in Australia. They can benefit a lot from such overseas western experience.

2.  Can you give more details about what makes Australia so attractive to students from Nepal?

Students from around the world, including Nepal, want to study in Australia. One of the key reasons is that it’s an English-speaking country. Many students don’t want to learn a foreign language before they can begin their actual course of study. Nepalese students learn English from a young age. They are also attracted to the variety of courses of study that I have mentioned before. They are highly likely to find one that best course that meets their needs after researching the courses, length of study and fees and other costs.

That’s not all though! Young Nepali students are also lured by the metropolitan way of life in cities like Melbourne and Sydney and also other smaller Australian cities like Brisbane, Perth, Darwin, Canberra, Hobart, Adelaide. They want to experience this type of lifestyle. Many young people are also eager to get an international student visa for Australia because they may be able to get permanent residency after they finish studying. And of course, the student visa process to Australia is less onerous than that in other countries like the United States.

Also now there is lots of opportunities for international students in smaller regional towns and cities away from big cities like Sydney and Melbourne in terms of job opportunity and extra points for Permanent Residency later if they decide to stay in Australia at the completion of their course.

3. What are the course and visa requirements for Australian student visa which prospective students must meet?

Australia student visa application requirements and checklist for international students:

The required qualifications are quite simple to understand so potential students will know whether they are suited to our schools or not. Let’s go through some of the basic requirements they must meet.

  • Students need to apply for student visa for Australia subclass 500 with subclass 500 form. Currently, the student visa for Australia application price ( cost ) is AUD $575.
  • They must have finished higher secondary education.
  • They must have strong English language skills as evidenced by IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or other equivalent English tests. Minimum IELTS score for Australian student visa for Diploma courses is overall 5.5.
  • They must have a valid passport.
  • They must be able to cover the costs of their studies (first-year course fee at least).
  • They must submit a statement of purpose outlining what they want to study and why.
  • Financial document to demonstrate their financial capacity to cover living and study cost for the first year. They need to meet funds required to apply for the student visa for Australia.

Those are the basic requirements on the student visa checklist. Currently the processing time for Australian student visa applications is from one month to over 3 months. There are some others which may apply in specific circumstances. Let’s look at those.

  • Prospective students must show proof of work experience or other productive activities if there are gaps in their studies.
  • If they are under 18, they must have welfare arrangements (a guardian) in place.
  • They should have documents supporting any claims of association membership, volunteerism or similar activities.

Potential students may also be asked to provide notarized documents or affidavits in certain circumstances.

4. Are there any challenges which Nepalese students should be aware of when thinking about studying in Australia?

There are major differences between Asian countries like Nepal and Australia so yes, there will be some difficulties and obstacles along the journey. Some of the challenges are:

  • Culture, norms, and foods vary widely, and this can make it challenging for students to adjust to their new life. Prospective students should do as much research as possible, so they are prepared for the new environment. However, these days big cities like Sydney and Melbourne have many many good Nepali restaurants and groceries stores opened by Nepali residents living there.
  • Language can be a barrier. Even though Nepalese young people know some English, they will need to understand varying slang terms and the speed at which the language is spoken by native speakers.
  • It can be tempting to go into tourist mode and explore Australia. Students will need a circle of friends and study partners who can keep them focused on their classes.
  • Managing finances with little to no income can be hard. Students should prepare as much as possible for expected expenses and try to have a little set aside for emergencies. The minimum living cost in Australia is estimated at around AUD $21000 (approx.)
  • International students are eligible for getting married or stay together as a de facto couple in Australia on a student visa if they have a boyfriend or girlfriend they want to live and share life with.
  • Also, Australia university scholarship is available for bright students. International students can inquire with their universities for such opportunities in their course of study if they are struggling financially.
  • Also, immigration visa rules change frequently, so students need to make themselves aware of the new rules for Australia student visa 2018 (i.e new policy for Australian student visa). Also, a student needs to be aware of the student visa extension processing time in Australia and renew their student visa on time while studying in Australia.
  • Homesickness can creep in. Many students may be away from home for the first time and they will miss their families and friends. They should expect this to happen. Technology can help them to stay in contact with loved ones back home. However, there are over fifty thousand Nepali students now in Australia, so new students can easily make friends and get guidance from the old students who have been studying in Australia for a while. Also, there are many Nepalese Associations in various Australian cities who can help the international students if need be.
  • If students suffer from mental distress or depression for whatever reason after arriving in Australia, they can access and contact-free Mental health support organization like Beyond Blue. For help from other Nepalese living here, they can contact NRNA (Non-Resident Nepali Association). Also, they can contact Nepali Embassy or Consulate offices in Australia.
